Site Description

South Acton Congregational Church (UCC) is located in the western suburbs of Boston along Route 2, and has about 150 members and 50 children enrolled in Sunday School. The congregation is open, supportive and vibrant. While generally theologically progressive, there is diversity of belief. Members are drawn from Acton and four surrounding towns. Recent and upcoming projects include: construction completed in 2006 making the entire building 100% accessible; plans to begin the Open and Affirming process in the fall of 2007; a new team working to expand hymns and music involvement.

Stipend Expectation

Student Involvement

Opportunities for a student are quite open and could include: leading worship and preaching; pastoral care and visitation; leading small groups; teaching confirmation classes; working with the youth group; designing and leading special worship services (healing, remembrance, Taize, etc); designing and leading special programs for children; social action in the community; work with the interfaith clergy group; focused work with the Outreach Committee, Open and Affirming Committee, Music Team or Welcoming Team. The church is small enough that the student could have an impact in an area, yet large enough to be busy and engaging.

Commitment to Educating Ministers

The 2006-2007 school year was the first time our church has hosted a seminarian in many years. We currently have four extremely enthusiastic and dedicated members of the TPC who have been meeting regularly with our student and finding the experience very fulfilling. Our TPC takes seriously their task of encouraging growth and learning, and all are proficient in reflecting on the role of church and pastor in the contemporary world.
