Site Description

Located in the beautiful Berkshire region, St.Stephen's is a vital, urban parish with a mission to be the heart and hands of Christ, nourishing people and transforming lives. We are an open and affirming parish with people of all ages and stages of life joining for worship, play, study and service. As the Episcopal resource parish for the region, we are the central meeting place for parish and community-related events. From concerts to classes, twelve-step groups to regional Confirmation, St. Stephen's is considered to be a place of action and reflection.

Student Involvement

Each seminarian who chooses to spend time with us at St. Stephen's is invited to explore a variety of his/her gifts through involvement in the parish and wider community. There are opportunities to teach, to create (curriculum, liturgy, sacred space), to observe/learn, to preach, to lead small group process, to feed the hungry and spend time with those whose lives are vulnerable, to help with hospital visitation and even to launch a new ministry. Each semester will offer the seminarian a chance to review his/her leadership style and set new goals. Our Rector, Hannah Anderson, is an artist-priest who encourages creative thought and action at St. Stephen's. Your relationship with Hannah and the staff will be one of collegiality and mutual respect.

Commitment to Educating Ministers

St. Stephen's has always been a parish open to the education and supervision of ministers and seminarians. This has been a longstanding tradition for many years, often with the clergy assisting a few students at a time. Since the arrival of our current Rector in 2005, we have been blessed to have had one seminarian from Andover-Newton with us for two years as she prepared for her ordination to the priesthood in the Episcopal Church. In addition, a newly ordained priest joined our staff in 2007. As our part-time Associate Priest, the Rev. Jennifer Gregg has continued to expand her skills and areas of ministry. All of our lay leaders continue to be strengthened in their skills as well.

Special Considerations

Our location may make transportation and/or lodging questionable, especially in winter weather. We can provide overnight accomodations for a seminarian as needed and are flexible with scheduling to allow adjustments due to weather. When a seminarian is not able to be on site for a supervisory meeting, there can be a conference call or Skype call set up with the supervisor.
