Vocational and Placement Resources for Students

Placement activities are orchestrated through the office of the Dean of Students (DOS).  The school does several things to support student placement. First, it maintains a job's board on the Andover Newton website where all notices of relevant position openings are posted. The DOS oversees job postings and thus talks with various church representatives on a regular basis about openings and potential candidates from within the student body. In addition, throughout the year the DOS fields requests from denominational and church representatives seeking to conduct interviews on the campus.  The DOS facilitates these visits and advertises the opportunities to appropriate groups of students. The DOS also posts notices in ENews, the school's internal electronic newsletter.  The school also hosts an annual meeting of officials from the major denominations represented in the student body (UCC, ABCUSA, and UUA).  These meetings, held in conjunction with the school's opening convocation each September, are designed to inform returning and entering students about the particular requirements for ordination in their respective denominations.

If you are planning to be ordained we strongly recommend that you connect with your denominational body before you enroll.  They  can provide you with the most thorough and updated information about the necessary steps toward ordination.  They can also be an invaluable support along the way.

For students entering other ministry careers, or seeking to use their degrees in other creative ways, the DOS creates opportunities each year where you can meet alumni who are engaged in a wide variety of important ministry with their degrees.  In addition, the DOS supports students through the creation of workshops pertaining to interviewing, resume writing, the job search, and other pertinent topics.
