Site Description

Westhampton Congregational United Church of Christ is a forward thinking church located in a beautiful pastoral setting. Established in 1779, Westhampton Congregational UCC is the only church in Westhampton, a rural community of 1600 nestled in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains. The church has been a focal point for a variety of church activities, outreach efforts, and community events. Our proximity to the City of Northampton and the Five College Area, provides a variety of cultural opportunities.Ninety six pledging units of our 233 members have supported a budget which has grown steadily over the past several years. Our congregation is multi-generational, with an active Christian Education program, a music program with three choirs, including a spirited junior choir, an active youth group, Women’s Fellowship, and an ONA Task Team, among others. We have recently been involved in a new library project for the Town, a Koran study group with a sister church, an annual Variety Show for the whole town, a multi-denominational Thanksgiving Service, as well as the regular services that fill out the Christian calendar. We are committed to our Christian traditions and feel that life is too short for long-faced religion. Our web site is www.westhamptonchurchucc.org.

Student Involvement

We invite our field education student into all aspects of our church life. If the student is to get a feel for ministry, it is necessary to be involved in committee work, have opportunities to preach, lead prayer groups, work with children and youth, and do some visitation of the sick and homebound. However, we realize that all students have special gifts and abilities that will guide them towards certain areas of church life. We will strive to fit the student to the most beneficial opportunities rather than have preconceived ideas of what they should do. Our pastor loves preaching and looks forward to working with the student in that area.

Commitment to Educating Ministers

Although this will be our first Field Ed student, over the years members of our congregation have actively supported the Hampshire Association Church and Ministry Committee. Historically our church has sent several members into ministry, including a woman currently active in the Massachusetts Conference. We are very excited about this opportunity and see it as a leap of faith that continues our service to the wider church. Though we are a UCC church, we are open to any student still searching for the best way to spread the Good News.
