Site Description

The Wollaston Congregational Church is home to a congregation of one hundred people, with a passion for finding creative ways to connect our faith with the everyday lives of our members and with the wider community. We are a relationship oriented group whose Essential Ministries include worship, hospitality, liturgical art, music, and education; mission and outreach with fellowship priorities; stewardship and business operations. Our church building is listed on both the Massachusetts and the United States Registries of Historic Places, and as such, is in the process of continuous restoration. Grant writing and fundraising are regular aspects of our ministry here in Wollaston. Our church is recognized as a Turnaround Church, or a “new church start in an old church building”, where we embrace empowerment and equipping of the laity to engage in the mission and ministry to which we feel called.

Student Involvement

A field education experience at WCC will provide you with the following opportunities for learning and growth in ministry: On site supervision with Dr. Gifford; participation in weekly worship planning and staff meetings; preaching and worship leadership; exposure to a still-growing Christian Education program, church administration, and congregational governance; involvement in the annual stewardship campaign; grant writing opportunities; experience healthy and productive relationships between the local church and wider denomination; networking opportunities within the Massachusetts Conference of the United Church of Christ through the Commission for Evangelism and Congregational Vitality, annual meetings, and workshops; help to expand and participate in the mission and outreach events of the congregation.

Commitment to Educating Ministers

Committed to making WCC a teaching church, Dr. Gifford has supervised ten ANTS field education students in the past ten years and has created a Pastoral Residency for Turnaround Ministry to train new pastors in the art of turnaround leadership. WCC is an ideal site for training and preparation in leading the church through the tides of change. Field Education students are provided with supervision and support and regular meetings with the Teaching Parish Committee.
